Artist of the Month!
Whimsical Egg Man - Alan Traynor
Alan has enjoyed making art for as long as he can remember, though he has had virtually no formal training. But he says: If you do anything over and over, for long enough, you are bound to get better at it!
For many years, art was a relaxing hobby while Alan pursued a career as a stage manager in the professional theater, where he worked on Broadway and off. In 1989, he relocated to Florida to work as a stage manager for the Walt Disney Company. While there, he attempted to paint one egg shell for a friend who collects eggs. He kept breaking the real shells, but his friend suggested why don’t you paint me a wooden egg and that one sentence changed his life. He painted one wooden egg for his friend, and one thing led to thousands! Sixteen years ago, he left his position at Disney to pursue his passion for egg painting full-time. And he has never regretted that decision.
In 18 years, Alan has painted over 43,000 wooden eggs (using Delta Ceramcoat Acrylics, of course!) with his faithful mascot Henrietta on his head. He markets his prolific output at art shows, events held at the Walt Disney World Gift Shops; in which he is a frequent guest artist, and on his whimsical website:
